Sunday Stillness - Things happen
Heeeelllllloooooo July
I know…I can’t believe it either; how did it happen? I saw something on Facebook the other day; showing how many days are left before the holidays. I scrolled right past it; whew…dogged that one!
How was your week? Did you learn or hear a lot when practicing the three seconds pause before resuming talking? Hit reply and share; I bet it was insightful stuff.
Did you get a chance to catch me live on Facebook on Wednesday? If not, (or you don’t have Facebook) here is the video. It was something that came to me while being live that I wanted to continue to explore with you. I touched on it rather briefly; but found more connection to it as the week went on. The statement — Things happen for a reason.
It’s funny how that statement (probably been used for decades) isn’t over used. Like so many other metaphors, cliche’ and slang phrases. It is sometimes said to someone inappropriately; but you don't traditionally get an eye roll, the UGH, or the response…I’m so tried of hearing people say that (well maybe you get that one).
Anyway, the thing about this phrase that I wanted to continue to explore with you; is not only the various ways you deliver or hear this phrase; but how some use the phrase to give up and just sit back and make life happen.
Things do happen for a reason—-this is a true and accurate statement. But, how they happen and why they happen all depend on you. So, if you were taking advantage of this statement and siting back and giving up; you end up becoming an contradiction. Ewwww….who wants that. EEK!
Because sitting back and letting things “happen for a reason” is still making a choice. It’s our choices that make things happen; those choices just go down one path or the other. So, let’s flip it and use this phase to helps us? How? Once we make our choice (silently repeat to yourself - things happen for a reason) and then…..detach. This is a helpful trick to the mind. It is a way for us to give the mind permission to let go. A way to surrender to the universe and the route on getting you to your outcome.
WOAH! That just got heavy.
Okay, let’s lighten it up a bit. Just two more thoughts on this phrase that I want to share.
We want to be careful when using this phrase. Sometimes as outsiders we see the “reason things are happening”; but the person who is in the experience may not see it. Yet.
And if their experience is grief, anger, or resentment; sharing this phrase with them, could make things worse. They have to arrive at their final destination before seeing, what they went through “happened for a reason”.
Remember, when that happened to you? Did you like hearing that phase? Exactly. So, when you find yourself wanting to say the phrase to someone to provide them comfort that everything is going to be okay; give yourself that three second pause(finding the stillness) before saying it. Or ask yourself?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?
My last share on “Things happen for a reason”; well, things do happen for a reason! (Lol). Enjoy them and enlightenment they provide.
See you in Stillness,
